CRICKET: Provincial selections

Siphamandla Mavanda has been selected for the WC Cobras Academy Squad. He also represented the WP Academy at the WCape Academy Tournament which was held in Oudtshoorn recently. He is joined in the WC Cobras Academy by Isma-eel Gafieldien, a former learner who matriculated in 2014. Three of last year’s matric class were also selected for the WP and Boland Academy teams. They are Mlamleli Gebe & Mxolelanisi Dlakavu – Boland Academy and Yolisa Mona – WP Academy.

The selection of these players is a major step in their cricket careers as it is a stepping stone to their inclusion in the semi-professional teams of WP and Boland. We will be following their progress with great interest.

The Western Province School Teams were recently announced and the following boys from the school have been selected:

Ziyaad Abrahams
Reuben Fortune
Siphamandla Mavanda

Diego Du Plessis
Thandani Majebe

Sisonke Mazele

Sinalo Gobeni

Mihlali Mpongwana

Ncedo Tywaku
Hlumani Msutu
Anees Du Toit

The u17 team participated in the regional play-offs for the SA National Schools Championships (SANSC), aka Top Schools Tournament , and beat Trafalgar HS 1 – 0 in the final. They will now play in the provincial play-offs to determine the school that will represent the Western Cape at the SANSC which will be held in Pretoria from 11-16 December 2015.

Both the Boys and Girls Volleyball teams have qualified for the  SANSC. The Girls team will be defending the title which they have held since the inception of the event in 2012, whilst the Boys will be out to make amends for their disappointing performance at last year’s event.
